Tasting Notes

The wine exhibits ripe blackcurrant fruit with earthy graphite mineral overtones, cradled by exceptionally fine tannins and integrated French oak. A distinct mineral complexity is derived from the rocky granitic soils of the Leeuwin Ridge.

Season

An exceptional vintage for white varieties. Strong winter rainfall replenished soil moisture, followed by a mild spring and a warm, dry summer extending through harvest. A notable highlight was prolific Marri blossom, which kept bird pressure in the surrounding forest rather than the vineyard. With minimal disease and no bird impact, fruit was harvested at optimal balance of flavour, sugar and acidity.

Vinification

Fruit was hand-harvested in the cool of the morning on 21 February 2022 and chilled overnight to 10°C. Whole bunches were gently pressed directly to French oak barriques (40% new, 60% second fill).
Fermentation occurred naturally in barrel, followed by 10 months’ maturation on lees prior to racking, blending, filtration and bottling in November 2022.
